February 16 - 23, 2008 Mars Hill and Sharon Baptist Churches

This is the home, if you can call it that, a family was living in. Our project for the week was to build them a new one.
This family of six, with three of the children not pictured, lost everything during Hurricane Stan in October 2005. Shortly after, the father became ill and the family's situation became very critical. In June 2007 we found them nearly starving to death with no food and their living conditions were the worst I had ever witnessed. At the time we visited them they were not believers in Christ. We carried them a few months worth of food and shared the good news of Jesus Christ with them and soon they began coming to the church where the mom and dad both would receive Christ as their Savior.

We are in front of their new house where they labored with us all week to see it complete.

The weather wasn't too bad but the work was hard as the team had to manhandle the concrete mixer up the 4 foot wide trail.

After moving concrete blocks, 80 lb. bags of mix and 15 tons of sand by wheelbarrow we were ready to go to work!

Above, Lewis works the mixer, Josh Redd packs the ground and Ray Evans keeps the blocks coming.

Rick Fleeman works with one of the masons on setting the rafters on the new house.
Nickie Kizer and Donald Robinson kept the sand coming. By week's end we poured 80 yards of concrete!

Of course we always had time for the children.

The house is coming along nicely by Wednesday.
