On Tuesday, our morning was much the same except eleven pastors would be blessed with some food purchased by Oakland Baptist Church. It didn’t take the team long to divide and prepare the corn, beans, rice, sugar, salt and cooking oil. Each pastor would receive enough food to feed his family for one month! Some of the team members were amazed at how this modest sum of food compared to our grocery shopping carts at home. These are people who know how to get by with little.
Ely shared how they might feed their families when they had no food or money to buy food with. He said that coffee would be prepared with some sugar, and old or “twice cooked” tortillas would be crumbled to make a sort of soup. This would suffice hunger until they had more. I prayed, “Lord, forgive us for what we take so much for granted.”
After the pastors received their food we prayed together and help them load their blessing. As always, we received more than was given.
The sun is very hot today and the team is working hard. It is a blessing serve and to be here among these very humble people. The ladies finished painting and we organized the storage bodega. Soon it was time for VBS again.
Ninety three children showed up today for the Bible school. They were nearly over come with excitement and anticipation. Melanie shared, in a wonderful way, the story of God’s creation and the fall of man in the garden of Eden.
Donnie and I left VBS early to come back and help pour the new bridge at the dormitory. Some clouds helped cool the evening air so the temp dropped into the low nineties. We mixed and poured some twenty yards of concrete and finished the bridge just in time for supper.
Our prayers concerning one of the roosters was answered. We dined on barbequed rooster and rice this evening and it was a very tasty meal. One less rooster crowing at 3 AM tomorrow morning.....I doubt it will really make much difference but just the thought of having one less to crow gives a little peace of mind.
