On Monday, we rose early, with the chickens literally. The roosters at Piedra Partida began crowing around 3AM giving us ample time to pray before rising. I fear most of our prayers were geared toward the demise of those feathered friends though.
By 6 AM David Hodges, Darrell Ogle and Jay Delk had begun working with the steel. Decorative steel art will provides security over the windows on the newer dormitory.
Don Williams, Edurado and I began breaking the old concrete out of the bridge so we could pour a new one in a day or two. The ladies began cleaning out the storage bodega to clean, paint and organize. The work went very well and much had been accomplished before breakfast.
As the heat index rose our bodies moved a bit slower but the team continued working hard until lunch.
After lunch, we prepared for the afternoon VBS that would be held at the church in San Antonio. Part of this team had helped dig and pour the foundation for this church building four years ago and had not been back since. They were glad to see the progress.
Upon arrival there were only around twenty five children present but as the start time neared around seventy were in attendance. We praised God for the behavior of these children and the opportunity to serve Him here.
The VBS went very well. The children sang and colored and then listened intently to the Bible story, of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, told by Melanie Livesay. We finished and headed back to the dorm around 6:00PM. It was already noticeable that a large piece of our hearts would remain in this community when it was time to leave.
