Experiencing the impoverished first hand has a definite effect on your life. Walking and working among the impoverished here in San Marcos, Guatemala is no exception. Though I have seen much, I pray I never become calloused or acceptant to that which we witness.
I aways wonder how coming will effect others, especially those who come for the first time.
Jim Brewer, long time friend, accountant, and WWWC board member, has heard me speak of our work here more than any. He is here with us this week for the first time.
Though I know Jim well, he has one of those poker faces. He can be hard to read. I over heard him telling his wife Betsy, by phone, saying "this place is breaking my heart." Thus is life here in Paradise. Later, with me, he gave me this comparison--
"If I told you about a candy bar and showed you pictures of it, you would feel like you had an idea about it. But until you actually tasted it you really had no idea.
This team is diverse in many ways but God is using each individual to touch hearts. He is also touching our hearts, as He does over and over again.
We are just beginning our day. May all we do bring glory to our Lord.
Thanks for praying,
Lewis
