It's 2010 and we're off!!
The Journey:
Cruising down to Atlanta at midnight sounded like a barrel of fun- uh - once upon a time. But when you throw in the 2am pit stop at the Waffle House -- there's nothing really like it to get a mission trip started.
Donna suggested the guys and I leave early-getting a hotel but I'm too cheap for that.
Our flight was leaving Atlanta at 9:50 Saturday morning so we wanted to arrive at the airport by 7a. No problem -- except for the over indulgence at the Waffle House.
On the plane, we ran into a storm somewhere over the Gulf of MX around 11a-one of the worst turbulences I had ever experienced. Yippie Ky Yea! We'll either be in Guatemala or Heaven very soon!
What an adventure! And at no extra cost.
Dramamine and barf bags were being passed around like candy and I praise the Lord that I had no need for either--yet-that is.
The captain charted east soon to find calmer skies and after a few minutes we were safe and secure at 39,000 feet.
Landing in Guatemala:
Something everyone needs to experience at least once in a life time. Mountains surround the carved out peanut size runway so finesse and experience are required, but mostly just good brakes. The tires produce a blue smoke while engines roar in reverse. No matter how many times I land here I still catch myself holding my breath a few seconds every time.
Well we made it! Spent Saturday night at Ely and Rosa's in the city and made the journey out to the coast and are here now (Sunday night). It's hot, beautiful and peaceful. The team will be doing construction work at El Tecamante this week. So much fun in the sun/Son. What a life!
Ely and Rosa are doing well but still a bit weary. They stayed behind, in the city keeping grand kids and getting much needed rest.
We pray you are blessed.
May you walk with God and be found faithful. To Him all glory and praise!
Thanks for prayers and support.
Lewis
